1. Question

When the trail hip is high at address (set up) when observed from behind, you will likely see which of the following in a standing tall posture Face-on?

  1. The shoulders and hips are level
  2. The trail shoulder is lower
  3. The trail hip is higher
  4. The lead hand internally rotates more than the trail hand
  5. Two (2) three (3) & four (4) above
  6. None of the above

Answer

  1. Two (2) three (3) & four (4) above

These images show a trail hip that is higher than the lead hip.

2. Question

Pelvic rotation is easily corrected in all stance widths:

  1. In ONE MINUTE
  2. By propagation of force from one fingertip & one Power Spot of the opposite hand
  3. An OK sign and Power Spot
  4. All of the Above

Please choose an Answer before scrolling down

2. Answer

  1. All of the Above

3. Question

When tested, the Lead Hand Grip will:

  1. Restrict shoulder rotation in the through swing
  2. Restrict shoulder rotation in the backswing
  3. Is unrelated to shoulder rotation
  4. None of the above

Please choose an Answer before scrolling down

3. Answer

  1. Restrict shoulder rotation in the backswing

4. Question

After setting the hip line square in 1 minute in a standing tall posture and the arms and hands hang exactly the same in all stance widths,

1 The grip is set at the same angle as the carrying angle

2.The proper grip is tested without a club by shoulder rotation

3.Both hands are set exactly the same as the carrying angle to have unrestricted rotation in the backswing and the through swing

4. All of the above

Please choose an Answer before scrolling down

4. Answer

  1. All of the above

The following illustration is from a 2008 Golf Magazine article showing how the hands hang in different stance widths. The latest Wright Balance® technology provides for the hands to hang the same in all stance widths.

5. Question

What is the exercise that levels the shoulders & hips, lowers the trail hip at address and last for over 24 hours?

  1. An internal oblique exercise
  2. An external oblique exercise
  3. The "Dead Bug" exercise tested in Dr. Frank Jobe's biomechanics lab
  4. The Wright Balance® 4-Way Express in all 5 subregions of the Dominant Core Zone

5. Answer

  1. The Wright Balance® 4-Way Express in all 5 subregions of the Dominant Core Zone

Recall the high trail hip shown in the above illustrations? The following illustrations show the before and after.

6. Question

Dr. Wright has looked at grip size & how it impacts BALANCE since 1992. He has concluded with Proof of Concept that:

  1. A Handle size that does not fit the person's hand impacts heel to toe balance
  2. A Handle size that does not fit the person's hand creates pelvic rotation
  3. Following the Wright Balance 4-Way Express, the person can play with any handle size they choose.
  4. All of the above
  5. None of the above

Answer

  1. All of the above

7. Question

When the shoulders and hips are level and the hands hang exactly the same at the player's side, how is the grip set in the lead and trail hands?

Please choose an Answer before scrolling down

Answer

The grip is set exactly the same as the measured carrying angle for maximum shoulder rotation in the backswing and through swing.

The following illustrations from 2015 show setting the lead hand grip using the player's carrying angle and the impact it has on the backswing.

8. Question

How does your average student look when standing tall face on?

Please formulate an Answer before scrolling down

Answer

The average student has an internal rotation of one hand and, on the opposite side, their is a lowered trail shoulder and a raised trail hip as shown in these illustrations

The following are photos of Nick Faldo from his 1989 book "On Winning Golf". Note the internal rotation of his left hand in this photo and lower trail (right) shoulder...

...and his higher trail (right) hip.

9. Question

When you apply tape to a fingernail of one hand and the Dominant Core Zone power spot of the other, what stance width is used for full swing and putting?

Please formulate an Answer before scrolling down

Answer

Your hips will be square and your balance will be a straight line of Pressure / Force consistent with the balance of your Dominant Core Zone. You can swing & putt from any stance width since your hips will be square.

However, as you will learn in subsequent Chapters and Zoom sessions, each Core Zone has an optimum stance width that facilitates precise sequencing of motion.

This illustration shows an example of a straight line of Pressure / Force during one of our pilot studies using Smart 2 Move Balance plates.

10. Question

What is the downside of taping a fingernail on one hand and the Dominant Power Spot on the other hand since the hips are square in all stance widths?

Please formulate an Answer before scrolling down

Answer

The answers to that question are multiple

1.If the grip is too large, balance will be toward the heels at address; If the grip is too small, balance will be toward the toes at address. Both of these conditions will change how the player uses the ground & they will be out of balance relative to their Dominant Core Zone.

  1. The trail hip will be higher the majority of the time impacting rotation, angle of attack, potential for injury, etc.
  2. Posture will change based upon grip size

Since the trail hip is higher, instead of approximating a parallel shoulder and hip line, the hips and shoulders will have an angle of intersection behind the ball.
  3. If the handle size does not fit, the hips will rotate opern or closed.

The following illustration shows the impact grip size has when it doesn't fit my hand. I am standing on a balance mat that was used in 2008 to study all factors of setup that impact balance. Note the "line of force" created by a grip that did not fit my hand. This was the beginning of understanding the impact of various golf setup positions and handle sizes across multiple sports and activities.

5.There is a loss of power when the grip does not fit. This image shows testing a handle size that fits. Note the strength this player has when force is applied to the downswing path when the grip size FITS.

This image shows the loss of balance when force is applied to the downswing path when the grip DOES NOT fit.

  1. The clubface remains square when the grip size is accurate and opens or closes depending on heel to toe balance.

This illustration shows former PGA Tour player Dennis Paulson's clubface when he was set up in balance with a grip size that fits.

Dennis purposely moved his weight toward his heels in the following image and the clubface opened.

Then Dennis moved his weight toward his toes and his clubface closed.

These illustrations show PGA Tour and Champions Tour player Bob E Smith. In the first illustration, Bob E. is shown set up with his club and a grip size that fits...

...and this is an illustration of Bob E. Smith with a grip size that is too small. Note the change in posture and open hip line.

The Wright Balance® 4-Way Express will level the hips and shoulders, lower the trail hip and more evenly approximate parallel hips and shoulders when viewed face-on.

11. Question

If the trail hand grip doesn't match the carrying angle or the exact angle of how the trail hand hangs in a particular stance width, what impact does that have on shoulder rotation?

Please formulate an Answer before scrolling down

Answer

The angle of the trail hand grip will restrict shoulder rotation in the through swing creating a condition of injury via repetitive use syndrome.

12. Question

The "OK" sign in one hand is:

  1. A signal that the burgers are ready
  2. A signal to your friend playing from the trees that they just knocked it stiff.
  3. One half of the propagation of force to set the hips square in all stance widths
  4. A signal to your server when your mouth is full that your food is good.

Please choose an Answer before scrolling down

Answer

  1. One half of the propagation of force to set the hips square in all stance widths

13. Question

How did Sam Snead Start his swing?

Consider your answer before Scrolling down and

Answer

Sam Snead started his golf swing with a move toward the target with his trail knee.
